Audio & Technical Terms
The technical building blocks found inside our packs
Sample
A general term for any recorded audio used in a new piece of music.
Loop
A piece of audio designed to repeat seamlessly, such as a drum beat or a melodic phrase.
One-Shot
A single, short recording of a sound (e.g., one kick drum or one snare hit).
WAV (24-bit/48.1kHz)
The industry-standard high-quality, uncompressed audio format used in most of our packs.
Dry vs. Wet
- Dry: The raw sound without any effects.
- Wet: The sound with effects like reverb and delay already applied.
Stems
Individual audio tracks exported separately from a full mix (e.g., Lead Synth Stem, Bassline Stem).
MIDI Files
Digital data that tells your computer which notes to play. MIDI contains no audio; you must use it with a software instrument or preset to hear sound.
Preset
A saved setting for a software instrument that tells the synth exactly how to shape the sound.
Licensing & Legal Terms
Essential definitions regarding your rights, ownership, and what you are legally allowed to do with our sounds.
Royalty-Free
This means you do not have to pay us a percentage of your earnings (royalties) when you use our sounds in your original music. However, ABT Sounds still owns the original copyright to the raw files.
License Key
Your unique proof of purchase. An alphanumeric code provided to you after your purchase. This acts as your digital agreement and legal right to use our sounds in your projects.
Non-Exclusive License
We grant you the right to use our sounds, but we retain ownership and can sell that same license to other producers.
Significant Alteration
The process of changing a sound or melody so much that it becomes a new, original work. To release a track commercially using our Song Kits, you must significantly change the melodies and arrangements.
Master Clearance
A guarantee that no further permission or fees are required to release a song made with our samples, provided our license terms are met.
Distributor
Companies (like DistroKid or Tunecore) that send your music to streaming platforms. They require you to have the legal rights to all sounds used in your track.
Content ID
A system (like YouTube’s) that automatically identifies copyrighted music. You cannot register our "as-is" loops or kits into Content ID, as this would falsely claim ownership over sounds other producers have also licensed.
Commercial Use
The right to use our sounds in projects that generate revenue, such as Spotify streams, paid advertisements, or monetized YouTube videos.
